A Kate Moss photo (below) by Corinne Day, signed by the model, will join images by photographers such as Steve McCurry, Cecil Beaton and Stuart Franklin in the 28 lot-sale being organised by the Financial Times newspaper.

The Financial Times Seasonal Appeal 2014 photography auction, to be held at the Getty Images Gallery in London on 3 December, will also feature a picture by photojournalist Thurston Hopkins, who died last month aged 101.

The auction will be hosted by IRC CEO David Miliband and FT deputy editor John Thornhill.

Shots by Tom Hunter, Tim Page and Simon Roberts are also among the lots that will go on show at Getty Images Gallery on 2 and 3 December (10am-5.30pm), for a viewing ahead of the auction.

The IRC aims to help people whose lives have been shattered by conflict and disaster. The organisation says it helps resettle thousands of refugees in US cities every year.

Its staff operate in 40 countries, providing healthcare, infrastructure, education and economic support.

On its website, the IRC adds: ‘When an emergency arises, the IRC arrives on the scene within 72 hours with urgently needed supplies and expertise that protect people caught in the midst of chaos.

‘We commit to stay as long as we are needed, helping survivors to heal, recover and rebuild their communities to be stronger, more stable and more democratic.’

Donations to the IRC can be made through the Financial Times Seasonal Appeal 2014 website.

The UK Government has pledged to match any donations made.

The Financial Times Seasonal Appeal 2014 photography auction will take place on 3 December, from 6.30-9.30pm, at the Getty Images Gallery, 45 Eastcastle Street, London W1W 8DX.

Meanwhile, 130 prints – signed and donated by the photographers behind them – are up for grabs in a project to mark the 130th anniversary of Amateur Photographer (AP) magazine.

In return for taking part, entrants are asked to kindly make a voluntary donation to the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).
