Photography retailer Jessops has shut down a shop in York because it was not financially viable, Amateur Photographer (AP) understands.
A Jessops spokeswoman confirmed the closure of the store in Parliament Street, York but declined to give a reason.
Jessops is reportedly hoping to transfer the nine staff to other stores in York, based at Piccadilly and Monks Cross Retail Park. However, Jessops was yet to confirm these transfers at the time of writing.
In January, the chain reported a £19.1m loss, with like-for-like sales down 6.5% for the year to 30 September 2008.
In an interview with AP, published last month, chairman David Adams said Jessops does ‘not have a long tail of unprofitable stores’. He added: ‘I think a lot of people think that may be the case, but, it is not.’
