Bob Rigby Photographic Ltd, based in Bollington and described as an ‘Aladdin’s cave’ by one customer in 2006, will be closed down at the end of this month.

Speaking to Amateur Photographer, Rigby – who describes himself as semi-retired – admitted that the photographic market has been tough in recent years.

‘I am 75 in July and very healthy, but just couldn’t afford to go on,’ he said.

Rigby has decided to sell the showroom but, from next month, will continue to trade as Bob Rigby Photographic – working from home to distribute Acratech and Wimberley equipment.

Bob Rigby Photographic Ltd employs five staff.

Among them is Andy Boardman, who was with the firm for 13 years and has set up a separate firm to supply camera accessories from makes including Sigma, Tamron and Hoya.

Boardman said he set up the Middlewich-based business, called Landscape days, to provide photographers in Cheshire with a service following the closure of Bob Rigby Photographic Ltd.

Landscape days – set up with photographer Nigel Waller – will also run photographic workshops.

‘We aim to continue the good work and service given by BRP Ltd and continue to serve photographers old and new,’ said Boardman.

From next month, Bob Rigby Photographic will be based at 11 Legh Road, Adlington, Macclesfield, Cheshire SK10 4NE. Bob Rigby can be contacted on 07775 845854.
