For the first time in its history the famed photojournalism agency Magnum Photos is to make its prints available for the UK public to view and buy.
From next month visitors to Magnum?s new purpose-built Print Room in London will be able to access rare vintage and contemporary prints, sometimes before they are exhibited elsewhere, according to a spokesman for the agency who added: ?Magnum London will be opening its doors to the outside world in an unprecedented fashion.?
Magnum Photos was set up nearly 60 years ago as a photographic co-operative owned by its members. It was formed by famous photographers Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger and David Seymour. Its archive contains around one million images though it is not clear how many photos from Magnum?s archive will be made available.
The Print Room ? due to be officially opened from 25 October – will be based at Magnum?s new London offices at 63 Gee Street, Clerkenwell EC1. Visits will be by appointment only, say organisers.
The agency is also poised to set up a permanent gallery space devoted to the work of Magnum photographers at The Atlas Gallery, 49 Dorset Street, London W1U.
