Originally due out in May, the 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS is billed as a ‘flagship telephoto’ and ‘versatile choice for shooting wildlife, sports, weddings and a variety of other events and locations’.
The upcoming lens was first announced in February as one of three new full-frame ‘GM’ lenses for the Alpha 7 system.
Sony has not given a reason for the delay which has also affected the new 1.4x and 2x teleconverters – also due out in Europe in May.
Meanwhile, Sony has warned that April’s Kumamoto earthquakes have affected the supply of parts of the following cameras – causing a potential shortage of these products for customers:
• Alpha 7
• Alpha 7R
• Alpha 7S
• Alpha 5100
• Alpha 77 II
• Alpha 99
The information about the delays/shortages was contained in translations of press releases issued by Sony Japan.
Sony Europe told Amateur Photographer it has not released any statements following the ones issued by its Japanese headquarters.
