Sigma has published technical specifications of its new cinema lenses announced today, and one point that stands out is an all-new optical formula for the 85mm T1.5 FF lens. While the other T1.5 full frame cine primes clearly use the optics from Sigma’s highly-regarded f/1.4 Art range of DSLR lenses, the 85mm T1.5 has an all-new configuration of 14 elements in 12 groups , as shown above. Compare this to the 11 elements in 8 groups design used by the existing Sigma 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM, seen below.
With the Photokina trade fair coming up in Cologne in a couple of week’s time, it seems fair to guess that we’ll see a new Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art prime announced there, with the same optical design as the 85mm T1.5 FF cine lens.
Like Sigma’s other new T1.5 primes the 85mm has a purpose-designed housing with geared focus and aperture rings featuring highly detailed distance and transmission scales, along with an integrated tripod mount foot with a standard 1/4in thread.
