Boasting the highest image quality of any Lumix G model, the GX8 features a 20.3-million-pixel imaging sensor and is aimed at amateur and professional photographers.
Due out in black and silver versions, the Lumix DMC-GX8 is expected to go on sale in the UK in September, priced £1,069, body only.
A new Venus Engine image processor should allow the GX8 to shoot in lower light with minimal noise.
‘The improved functionality makes it possible to remove blocks of noise that were formerly tough to detect’, claims Panasonic, ‘allowing you to replicate the image just as you saw it through the lens’.
The Dual IS system combines Lens Optical Image Stabiliser and Body Image Stabiliser in a move designed to correct ‘even severe hand shake’.
The GX8 boasts a top burst rate of ten frames per second (using the electronic shutter) and is claimed to boost colour reproduction by analysing not only colour, but also saturation and luminosity.
Equivalent ISO has been raised from ISO 200-12,800 on the GX7, to ISO 200-25,600 (extended).
Built to be ‘lightweight, yet rugged and durable’, the ‘splash and dustproof’ magnesium alloy-bodied new camera houses a 2.36 million-dot EVF capable of tilting up to 90°.
While the back of the GX8 carries a 3in (1.04m-dot-resolution) freeangle LCD touchscreen. A new customisable Dual Dial Control aims to improve handling.
Panasonic claims the GX8 can focus as fast 0.07secs, while a new algorithm improves AF tracking by 200%.
Kit options will include an outfit with a 12-35mm f/2.8 lens, priced £1,799.
