Nikon is set to release a digital compact camera with a built-in projector that it claims will ‘shake-up’ the way people share their photos and videos.
Billed as a world first, the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj, out next month priced £399.99, features a 12.1-million-pixel imaging sensor, a 2.7in LCD (230,000 dot) screen plus a claimed top equivalent ISO of 6400 (for images at a resolution of 3MP or less).
‘If you’ve ever wanted to share your photos or videos at a party, or relive a day’s memories while on your travels, then now you can with one-touch projection? the built-in projector easily projects an image size from approximately 5in up to 40in,’ claims Nikon.
The kit includes a remote control to operate the projector and camera functions, plus a ‘projection stand’.
Also on board is Face Priority AF and a Blink Proof function that shoots two sequential frames, then saves the one in which the subject’s eyes are ‘widest open’.
The 155g camera deploys lens-shift Vibration Reduction (VR) and electronic VR.
The lens is designed to deliver the 35mm viewing angle equivalent of a 28-140mm zoom.
It includes Scene Auto Selector and a Skin Softening function that aims to ‘reduce the appearance of blemishes’.
Also unwrapped for the autumn are the 12MP Coolpix S640 claimed to have the fastest start-up time (0.7sec) of any camera in its class. It will cost £249.99 but the launch date is yet-to-be-confirmed.
Meanwhile, the Coolpix S570 (£199.99 and due out in September) is a 12MP model touted as ‘slim and elegant’.
