Canon USA has stated that it will not attend next year’s Photo Marketing Association (PMA) trade show in California, blaming ‘convergence of technology’. The show is the world’s largest annual imaging event.
In a statement issued to Amateur Photographer, a spokeswoman confirmed: ‘Canon USA has made the decision not to attend the PMA trade show in 2010.
‘With the industry shifting, and the convergence of technology becoming more prevalent across Canon’s broad product portfolio, the decision has been made by Canon USA to only participate in 2010 trade shows and events that have the broadest reach.’
PMA 2010 takes place from 21-23 February 2010, at the Anaheim Convention Center, in southern California.
There is no official word on whether Canon Japan or Canon UK will attend the event.
However, this week’s issue of Japanese trade publication Pen News Weekly states: ‘Canon rebuffs PMA 2010’.
The Pen article adds: ‘The camera maker is, as usual, joining the CES trade show next year.’
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) takes place from 7-10 January 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
